Mixed deciduous woodland including mature oak, a wooded deer park and an arboretum.

Directions

Signposted from the B4300 west of Ffairfach. There is a pay-and-display car park. The nearest railway station is Ffairfach, 5 Km from the park. There is no charge for admission. Telephone 01558 668885

Facilities for visitors

There is a visitor centre, cafeteria and toilets. Ranger service. Although the nature trails are not suitable for wheelchairs, the terrace behind the visitor centre has a good view of the deer park.

Tips for birding the site

The country park provides an opportunity to observe the species typical of welsh woodlands. Nest boxes are provided for Pied Flycatchers. There are five nature trails. The 1.5 miles (2 km)-long “green” trail, traverses woodland and the deer park and finishes in the arboretum It offers the best birding.

Red Kite, Buzzard, Kestrel, Peregrine, Sparrowhawk, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Pied Flycatcher, Spotted Flycatcher, Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Wood Warbler, Goldcrest, Tree Creeper, several species of tits, Nuthatch, Tree Pipit, Redstart. In winter, roosts of finches, Redwing and Fieldfare.

Scarce and rare birds

Goshawk, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.
