Llyn Llech Owain Country Park is managed by Carmarthenshire County Council. It is an SSSI

Description and habitats

A lake forms the central feature of the park but it does not support many birds. The rest of the park has peat bog, mature coniferous plantation, dry heath and broad-leaved woodland all of which are of ornithological interest. There is an ongoing programme of conifer clearance and re-instatement of heathland.

Directions

The park is signed from the A476 at Gorslas and has its own car park. There is a charge for car parking but no charge for admission. There is a special car park, which is situated close to the visitor centre, for use by disabled people. Llyn Llech Owain is not served by public transport. Phone 01269 832229.

Facilities for visitors

There is a visitor centre and a cafe both of which have toilets. Many of the paths are well surfaced and are accessible to wheelchair users. Ranger service.

Tips for birding the site

A well-maintained path allows safe access  over the peat bog and there is a variety of tracks in the woodland. There are well-stocked bird feeders in several places which attract woodland birds including Willow Tits. The area of the lake supports a healthy dragonfly population which is occasionally predated by Hobbies.
