This document is intended to help you in submitting a sighting using the new system. Comments and suggestions on how to improve this system are welcome.

By default articles are not automatically published and need to be authorized by a moderator, I apologize for this but it is the way the system was built (not by myself I might add).

There are some guidelines that need to be remembered when using this new system, particularly when it comes to images.

• Image resolution should be no more than 640x480px, there are still people using dialup modems in parts of the county and large images will slow the page considerably for them!
• Ensure you store images in the correct folder, more on this below.
• Name your image uniquely, I suggest the format of your name and the date separated with a _ (underscore), e.g. MarkNewton_23092009.jpg. This will hopefully avoid images being overwritten by other users.

'Filling in the bits'

• Login at the bottom of the right column.
• Hover over the ‘Sightings (New)’ link at the top of the page.
• A dropdown menu will appear, click on ‘Submit a sighting’.
• A new page will load looking like the image below (Figure 1), I have cropped the images so that more information can be seen.

• Enter information in the title box. This can be anything, I prefer where and what I seen, you may prefer what you’ve seen, this is entirely your choice.
• In the main body of the editor enter the rest of your information; inserting an image is covered later.
• The bottom of the page has some important information that needs to be entered (Figure 2), missing this will mean that the moderators will not find your record and it will not be authorized.

• Only one thing needs to be changed here, the ‘Section’ dropbox, click on this and select ‘Sightings’. Do no select ‘Show on front page’.
• Scroll to the top of the page and click on the ‘Save’ button on the right.

Inserting an image

Important: Resizing an image on the page does not change the file size e.g. If you upload a 1mb file and then resize it in the editor to 320x240 pixels the file size does not change from 1mb, the system rescales the image only!

• Click on the “Image” icon at the bottom of the editor, a new window will open (Figure 3).

• You will see a number of folders, click on the ‘sightings’ folder. This will keep all the sightings images in one place, any stored in the main folder or any other folder may well be deleted!
• Click on the ‘Browse’ button and locate your image on your machine, when you are happy with the selection click the ‘Start Upload’ button.
• Once the file is uploaded select your file from the main screen and enter information into the ‘Image Description’ and ‘Image Title’, these must be completed. If you wish the information to be displayed under the image place a tick in the ‘Caption’ checkbox. See Figure 4. Click 'Insert' at the top of the right-hand side of the window.
