Saved a house sparrow from one of our cats this morning. She was a bit dazed but otherwise unharmed so I put her in a bush and she scrambled up fairly well. I had not been back in the house a minute when I heard a commotion in the garden and looked out of the window to see a male sparrowhawk sitting on the fence clutching a sparrow. I assume it was the same poor luckless sod I had just saved as she would not have been alert enough to flee. Great view of the sparrowhawk though, he was in prime condition, puts a new slant on feeding birds in the garden I suppose! |

A wryneck was seen in my garden near Newcastle Emlyn - SN300412 - at 09:48, 04 09 10. It fed briefly on the terrace, giving very good views from the kitchen window, but then flew off unfortunately before it could be photographed!
Two shots of Wryneck taken several years ago.
